Souper History

The Souper Bowl was originally a bar that was then bought in the 1980s by the current owners who decided to keep the name. Through the years, the bar was passed down from grandfather to father and daughter.

When first purchased, the bar had no windows. Strategically, the family decided that their new purchase was in need of light. The storefront and new windows of The Souper Bowl are located on 5th avenue and also overlook the famed Fifth Ave (as mentioned in the song Party on Fifth Ave by Pittsburgh native, Mac Miller) and the PPG Arena.

Since the bar’s opening, The Souper Bowl is a hidden hot spot for celebrity and athlete sightings. People like hockey star Jaromir Jagr would stop in for a bite to eat; former Penguins hockey coach, Michel Therrien, would order his favorite Reuben; Pittsburgh Penguin player Aaron Asham would bring his youth hockey team in for food and fun; super bowl champion Jeff Reed has kicked the paper towel holder off the wall in the men’s bathroom; and the Netflix favorite, the Trailer Park Boys, rented out The Souper Bowl for themselves and Penguins players while in town for their game.
